On this week’s World Music Show (10/1), we’ll create a travelogue of musical souvenirs, with highlights in alternative Portuguese tunes, as well as some Rock-n-Roll tracks out of Russia. Plus, we’ll hear a melding of African & Brazilian music, as well as some groovy Gypsy songs.
In response to racial, ethnic and religious hate crimes and rhetoric, many are looking for ways to foster tolerance and celebrate diversity. In the Richmond area, many years of interfaith dialogues between Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities have led to a new tradition. WCVE’s Catherine Komp has more for Virginia Currents.
Next week (June 25-28), Richmond will be the host city for the American Guild of Organists Regional Mid-Atlantic Convention. This will feature various workshops, recitals and concerts taking place each day across the city. It’s a great opportunity to hear the wonderful instruments we have in Richmond's churches. All recitals and concerts are open to the general public.
Organizers Grant Hellmers and Bob Gallagher stopped by our 88.9 WCVE studios to chat about the performances you’ll be able to attend.

Every so often on the World Music Show I like to tackle a certain geographical area, musically speaking of course. And on this week’s show (6/24), we’re going to do just that.
