Henrico Board of Supervisors Approves Mental Health Facility for East End

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors has approved $6.5 million dollars for a new mental health facility for the county’s east end.

The new 31,000 square foot facility will be located at 3908 Nine Mile Road.

Laura Totty, Executive Director, Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services, said, “It will be used to serve adults and children with mental health development disabilities, substance abuse disorder.”

She says it will replace the old clinic on Laburnam and one of the goals is to make it warm and welcoming.

“Folks will feel good about walking in the door. It’s hard to say that you have a substance abuse disorder, or that you have a mental illness or that your child need some help. And we want to take down those barriers so that people can walk in and receive the services that they need.”

Henrico’s new mental health facility is slated to open in June of next year.
