Hanover Pharmacist Loses State License In Multi-State Prescription Drug Case

A Hanover County pharmacists has lost his state license following a multi-state investigation involving illegal prescriptions. Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring says the Board of Pharmacy has revoked Douglas Harris’ license and ordered him to pay a 15 thousand dollar civil penalty.  Herring says the board’s action last week stemmed from an investigation by the state and the US Drug Enforcement Administration, which found that Harris’ Beaverdam  Pharmacy filled 338 prescriptions for oxycondone, hydromorphone and other controlled substances for 55 patients from Kentucky, Georgia and Florida in 2012 and 2013.  Those prescriptions were written by physicians in George and Florida who were being investigated…for inappropriate prescribing of medications.
