Donald Trump’s former Virginia Campaign Chairman Corey Stewart has secured the Republican nomination to challenge Senator Tim Kaine in November.
After trailing him for most of the evening, Stewart defeated Republican Delegate Nick Freitas of Culpeper 45 to 43 percent. Stewart told supporters he will unite the coalition that President Trump brought together in 2016. “We will win working men and women across this state. We will restore our values. We will restore our economy. We will restore our border and we will restore America.”
Though Freitas slammed Stewart for racially charged rhetoric during the primary campaign, he says he will support him in the race against Kaine in November.
Finishing a distant third in the primary contest was EW Jackson, a minister and 2013 Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor.
