A stunning upset last night as U.S. Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost his bid for re-election to primary challenger and Tea Party favorite Dave Brat. Brat, an economist from Ashland was outraised by Cantor by more than 10 to 1, but picked up momentum by calling Cantor the most liberal Republican in Congress on immigration reform.
Speaking to supporters, Cantor called serving as Virginia’s 7th district congressman and as Majority Leader one of the highest honors of his life. While the votes exist to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill, Cantor, who schedules the agenda in the House of Representatives, has yet to call it to the floor for a vote.
