Back-to-school is almost here and Virginia once again is giving shoppers a break on buying school supplies. During this three-day period beginning Friday (August 1), shoppers at retail stores statewide will not have to pay sales tax on notebooks, pens, calculators, binders and other school supplies priced up to 20 dollars or on most clothing and footwear priced at 100 dollars or less.
It is one of three sales tax holidays every year passed by the 2007 General Assembly. Retailers may also choose to absorb the tax on other items during the period, and some do.
Eligible items are posted on the Department of taxation’s website at tax.virginia.gov.
