“250 Foot Rule” Hearing in Heathsville July 10th

The ongoing debate about vacation rental properties and permits continues in Northumberland County. The question is should the owners of vacation rental homes or tourist homes be required to have a conditional use permit? Last week it was decided that there’ll be a public hearing on a newly proposed “250 foot rule.”

According to the Kilmarnock Record, that would allow a rental structure more than 250 feet from its residential home with no permit. Rental structures within 250 feet would need to get the conditional use permit. Tourist homes will continue to be required to have a permit regardless of how far they are from any residential neighbors.

The hearing will take place July 10th at the courts building in Heathsville.
