Over the following hour you’ll hear the 4 candidates for Virginia’s 10th Senate District Seat, answer questions on a variety of issues that one of them will have a direct say in once elected. Whoever succeeds in the 10th District race could determine the balance of power in the state Senate, which is now narrowly controlled by Republicans.
Watch this special edition of WCVE Forum.
The 10th includes portions of Powhatan, Chesterfield and Richmond. The seat is being vacated by retiring Senator John Watkins of Powhatan, a moderate Republican.
The candidates running to succeed him are Independent Marlene Durfee, Libertarian Carl Loser, Democrat Dan Gecker and Republican Glen Sturtevant.
The forum was sponsored by the non-partisan, non-profit child advocacy group Voices for Virginia’s Children and was hosted by 88.9 WCVE Public Radio at our Sesame Street Studios in Richmond.
The first portion of the forum focuses on children’s issues and were written by the team at Voices. Candidates received these in advance and were able to do research to develop thought out positions on them. Those questions were asked by Stacy Hawkins Adams.
During the second portion of the program, Craig Carper asked the candidates questions on issues of general interest, all of which are currently before the General Assembly. None of these were received in advance.
