WCVE Public Radio Back at Full Power

We are pleased that we now have WCVE Public Radio back at full power. The many comments we’ve received over the past few days have made it abundantly clear that we have programming that you value and rely on.

WCVE Public Radio Outage Update

WCVE Public Radio experienced transmitter problems on Friday night (2/3/12) and was off-the-air for an extended period. Engineers were able to restore the signal, but at a greatly reduced power setting. Accordingly, many listeners are experiencing a very weak signal or in some cases, no signal at all.

The needed repair parts are custom made and have been ordered. The manufacturer is configuring them now and will ship them as soon as possible. In the meantime, our engineers are working on our current equipment trying to find a way to increase power to the signal.

In looking over this week’s World Music Show playlist (2/4), I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m stumped. That’s right, I’m stymied as to what to hang a hook on. There’s so much goodness for your ears that it’s hard to pick just one thing, just one artist as to give you a reason to tune in. So, let’s break it down so I give you a dozen reasons to listen.

Before The Frost...Until The Freeze

It sounds too pompous and way too much of a cliche to state one particular Americana ensemble has taken up where The Band left off--on the other hand--if anyone deserve's to be in that category, The Black Crowes certainly do.  Critics in the past loved to slap  miselading labels on them.

This unique field station on the James is in an area rich in natural and cultural resources and is an ideal place to teach how we all can become better stewards of our natural resources.

There is more to American youth's involvement in music than American Idol.  Unfortunately, what is truly worthy in other forums seldom gets the attention it deserves. Last fall, I highlighted how the band Styxx did a concept DVD with a youth orchestra and you heard insightful thoughts from prog guitarist James Young.

A Smorgasbord of Sound

Tinariwen

On this week's World Music Show (1/28), I feel like I took all the cool sounds and songs from around the globe and put them into a blender and came out with a show worthy of a few hours. Where to begin, oh, where to begin! Ok, how about with a few tracks from the Maylasian singer and ukelele player Zee Avi.  Her voice is smooth, deep, sultry and even whimiscal. And her songs evoke a bit of magic, too.
