McDonnell Wants to Eliminate Gasoline Tax, Raise Sales Tax

Gov. McDonnell wants Virginia to be the first state to eliminate the gasoline tax, in favor of an increased sales tax to fund transportation.

Down the road McDonnell will say he eliminated the gas tax. The whole thing sounds like a Republican sound bite to me anyway. Remember how that worked out for Gilmore and his car tax? As long as McDonnell stops talking about arming public school admin and violating women's healthcare rights he can blather on about whatever he wants until he's out of office. And furthermore, why hit people with additional taxes/fees for being smart enough and solvent enough to find a way to buy a car that uses alternative fuels?

What is he doing! He will be targeting seniors and young children who do not drive by making them pay for the roads they do not drive on! Plus, many residents from other states pass through Virginia and buy more gas than snacks. They should pay more for our roads. I vote to increase the gasoline tax by at least four cents!
