Cantor-Powell Debate In Virginia's 7th

The first and only debate set in Virginia's 7th District between incumbent Republican Eric Cantor and Democratic challenger Wayne Powell played to a Virginia State Chamber of Commerce gathering and a national CSPAN audience last night.  Charles Fishburne reports.

In early 2012, the League of Women Voters and the Richmond First Club invited Cantor to pick a date when he would participate in a debate with any opponent(s) for his seat. These organizations were communicating with WCVE and Channel 23 to air such a debate. Cantor and his campaign declined to offer a date.

I look forward to the day when Cantor's chance for re-election is so precarious that he will be begging to debate his opponent(s). That day is probably very far away, so just maybe he will realize that he is a public servant, amenable to the people, instead of seeing elections as the time for voters' to fulfill their obligation to keep him gorging at the public trough and wallowing in lobbyists' largess.
