Paper Wasp (Genus Polistes)

Dr. Art Evans, entomologist and WCVE Public Radio producer Steve Clark comment on the upside of having wasps, especially paper wasps, in the garden.

I assume the range you're asking about is the range from any particular nest, rather than the distribution of wasps around the world. A little poking around the internet gave me a general figure of about 200 yards, but wasps can certainly travel much greater distances. I believe the wasp in the photo has its nest on the ceiling of my front porch, about 30 yards from the garden where the wasp caught the caterpillar. They are great predators if you can tolerate them. So far, so good in my situation.

Very interesting. We have these in our yard. do you know how far they range from the nest in search of food?
