This I Believe -- Marty Muguira

Today's essay is by Dr. Martha (Marty) Muguira, an inspirational and transformative leader, LMR 2004 graduate, alumna of William & Mary, former Executive Officer and Board member for several non-profit and business organizations in Virginia, university professor, and therapist. Dealing with terminal illness since 2006, she applies her beliefs to her situation, inspiring others to experience the richness of life in all aspects. WCVE Public Radio, in partnership with Leadership Metro Richmond, brings you This I Believe -- in which LMR members reflect and share personal thoughts based on values and beliefs that help to shape our lives, community and society.

Leadership Metro Richmond is a community leadership organization designed to connect and inspire leaders in our region. This I Believe is an international organization engaging people in writing and sharing essays describing the core values that guide their daily lives. The project is based on a popular 1950s radio series hosted by famed broadcaster Edward R. Murrow.

Marty,
In all the sharing I have had the priviledge to enjoy with you, you are always fully present to life itself. Now you are fully meeting the greatest challenge of your life and giving through all your courage, your love and the extreme joy you have for life and the living of it. I commend you for fully being you and being the friend you are to so many.
Much love,
Alice

Thank you Marty, for all you give and share as you continue on this journey. You have such powerful strength and insight. What you deem as "belief" is what makes you; it's your nature and being and it's truly wondrous. I'm so grateful for your words, your insight, and your love.

I listened to your broadcast. You are courages to accept things as they are. God did not promise that we would be at this stage always. We are forever evolving. We always are weary of the unknown but worrying is useless. I will appreciate the present and enjoy all the beauty of it. I will magnify all I see, hear, feel and smell the beauty of this world. I will always be thankful and give God the glory.
Gale

Martha, you are life itself in the most pure sense, a lesson to be learned by all, your beauty trascends all, you are love, hope, serenity and truly one with God.

Marty, Thank you forever for teaching us how to engage with every challenge and maintain the love of color, experience, and possibility that emerge in the process. You are wise, you are love in action, you are powerful and present and a teacher of healing. Your legacy will continue for generations to come, and the world will be sweeter, more savory, and vastly more colorful and mythic because of who you are, and because you so generously share your gifts daily. May your path be blessed with every sweetness!
