House Votes to Repeal "King's Dominion Law"

The Virginia House of Delegates has voted to repeal the "King’s Dominion Law."   Repeal would allow public schools to begin classes before Labor Day without a state waiver.  The longtime law's unofficial name stems from its support by the tourist and hospitality industry and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

How did this get to be a law in the first place? Since when does the entertainment industry get to set the school calendar? What's next, the curriculum?
