Virginia’s Natural Heritage Program celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday with guided group hikes led by recreation and conservation staff and volunteers at preserves throughout the state. In the Northern Neck of Virginia, both Hickory Hollow and Hughlett Point Natural Preserves were saved from developers’ backhoes by citizens who knew the areas contained important and rare plant and animal species. WCVE Northern Neck Correspondent Pamela D’Angelo spent the day hiking both.
