Brian Ford views the business news.
I was a bit taken aback this morning by the casual manner in which Mr. Ford improperly stated that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, often referred to as Obamacare) would increase the deficit over and above the other major issues that are affecting the current federal budget deficit. As many news organizations, including NPR, explained at the time of the bill's debate, all reasonable forecasts from non-partisan organizations such as the Congressional Budget Office showed that the PPACA would actually reduce the deficit because its spending increases were more than offset by spending reductions in other areas and tax increases. Unfortunately, it appears Mr. Ford has unconsciously adopted the Fox News spread falsehoods regarding the deficit impacts of the PPACA. I would hope that in the future Mr. Ford would be more accurate in his descriptions of the issues that have caused our huge deficits (mostly the poor economic conditions, the Bush tax cuts and the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit program which unlike PPACA was not paid for through any new revenues or spending cuts) or that Mr. Farrar would at least correct the record.
