UVA performs world’s first focused ultrasound treatment for essential tremor

Surgeons at the University of Virginia have conducted the world’s first scapel-free brain surgery to relieve a patient’s debilitating tremor, and as Charles Fishburne tells us in this Science Matters report, it holds promise for many other procedures as well.

My father is 90 years old and suffers from essential tremor. Last summer he had a stroke and now the tremor is only on his right side. How can I get an appointment for him to see someone at your facility to be considered for treatment? Thank you for your help.

Hello Richard,

You may wish to contact UVA's Neuroradiology Division at (434) 243-9312 to get more information on appointments and treatments. Thanks very much.

I am a 72 yr old female who has essential tremor and nothing has helped over the past two yrs - it has only gotten worse. I have the added problem of not being able to take lots of the different meds the doctor has tried. I would desparetly like to be in this trial and get my life back. It is in both arms and my face. HELP!
