Navy relieves destroyer commander
In Norfolk, the Navy has announced that the commander of a destroyer has been dismissed.
Commander Nathan Borchers and nine members of the crew of USS Stout have been removed from the ship.
Borchers, the Navy said, was relieved of his command because of a loss of confidence in his ability to deal with a pattern of unprofessional behavior among the crew, including fraternization, orders violations and disregard for naval standards.
Commander Sylvester Steele left yesterday from Norfolk by plane to take control of the destroyer, which is in the Mediterranean. Steele was promoted from his position as Executive Officer of another destroyer, USS Ramage.
