Census figures show Asian population doubled in Richmond metro area, tripled in Goochland
The numbers of Asian-Americans has doubled, and in some cases tripled in the Richmond metropolitan area in the past ten years.
UVA’s Weldon Cooper Center says the Asian population is growing dramatically in three metropolitan areas: Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads and Richmond.

Cai: Henrico, Powhatan, New Kent, all those have Asian population doubled; Richmond almost doubled, had increase of 92%.
She was born in China, and she says despite what we may see in the news, America is still the land of opportunity for many.
Cai: America is the mecca; it's just, it's so attractive. I would say it's the opportunity and the freedom to choose. It sounds so cliched, but that's so true.
As of last April, there were 440,000 Asians in Virginia, 5.5 percent of the population.
