Proposed Hanover County budget shows small improvement
Hanover County is looking at a budget for fiscal 2012 that is essentially flat. But as Charles Fishburne reports...that is an improvement.
Last year, Hanover had to cut its budget 5.3 percent to make ends meet, but this year things are a bit better.
Stanley: Some folks say we're out of this recession; I don't believe we are at the present time, but maybe showing some signs of that.

Stanley: Probably have to use some reserve funds to make it balance, but overall, I think we've been looking out for this.
The proposed 203 million-dollar general fund is up 2.2 percent over fiscal 2011; employees could get a 2.25% raise or bonus, education could get another two percent, and public safety .7 percent.
The improvement is mostly due to a 12.8 percent projected increase in sales tax revenues. Real estate and personal property taxes are still down, and service has shrunk a bit. The county will lose 10 positions, the school system 17, but none would require layoffs.
A public hearing is set for March 30th.
