Energy Forward Richmond announces student competition
Energy Forward Richmond has announced a competition for students to help understand energy and how to save it, how to save money while using it, and its impact on the future.
Natalie Smith is director of Energy Forward Richmond, set up by the Shell Oil Company to involve the community in the energy dialogue.
Smith: What we're looking for here is for teachers to work with their students to develop age-appropriate energy-related ideas.
For kindergarten through fifth-grade students, the challenge is 'The Art of Energy.' They'll do art projects to show how energy can be saved at home, at work and at school.
Smith: Grades 6 through 8, we're calling this challenge 'Energy in Action.' Here we're looking for students to work as a class to develop an advertising campaign or a public education program about how we can use our energy resources wisely.
For high school students, Energy in Motion is a chance to create a video about what the country needs to do to prepare for our energy future. Prizes include more than $15,000 in savings bonds and grants to schools. Entries are due April 4th. Details are available at energyforwardonline.org.
