22-year-old man charged with first degree murder in Petersburg
A Petersburg man has been indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of 21 year old Jonathan Williams in September.
In all, 22 year-old Darnell Hylton faces nine charges, including first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, as well as multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder and firearms violations.
Williams was found dead inside of a car parked on Stately Court around one in the morning of September 5th. Investigators said last fall they didn’t believe he was the shooter’s target. Jamaal Johnson, in fact, testified at a January hearing that he and Hylton had had an argument just before the shooting.
Prosecutors noted that Johnson and Williams looked a lot alike. He, and other witnesses, told police they heard gunfire. At least six shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Hylton was arrested nine hours later by officers following up on a CrimeSolvers tip.
