Fire Weather Watch out for today
The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch, in effect from nine this morning until nine tonight. Charles Fishburne reports.
High winds, high temperatures, low humidity and dry ground cover prompted the alert.
McGhee: What we've got here is a fire weather watch; it's gonna be up for most of central and southern Virginia.
Jonathan McGhee, National Weather Service.
McGhee: That's for threats of enhanced fire danger. This year when we have low fuel moistures and in combination with winds expected to be sustained of twenty miles per hour or greater, along with a relative humidity values below thirty percent.
He says you can help.
McGhee: We strongly discourage any kind of outdoor burning and that's basically because these conditions that we're gonna have, any fire that did get started could quickly get out of hand.
The fire weather watch ends at nine tonight.
