Agroterrorism conference set

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and the FBI are hosting a conference on agroterrorism tomorrow, and as Charles Fishburne reports, it will play to a packed house.

There are 47,000 farms in Virginia just to start, and they are vulnerable.

Brieze:  You don't really need to be thinking of making a rocket or making a ton of powder.

Roger Brieze is a Veterinarian and Chief Scientist of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Brieze:  If you infected one animal in the United States by rubbing its nose in the stuff, it could go on to cause a serious epidemic nationwide.

So far, Virginia has had no threats, no problems, but state officials want everybody along the food chain just to be a bit more vigilant.

Lidholme:  Every point in the food distribution chain, we have worked with people to say 'limit the access.'

Elaine Lidholme, Virginia Department of Agriculture.

Lidholme:  We calll that bio-security.

This regional conference in Blacksburg is the third so far this year; it's free, and every seat is taken.
