Down at False Cape State Park, first of Sept. I saw 100's of male canker worms in a meadow, each on a grass seed head. The seed head was sticky at the base. Were these emerging males?
Thanks for your note and comment. There are many moths that are superficially similar to male cankerworms. I am afraid that I cannot comment on the identity of that moths that you observed without a photo or specimen. Feel free to post a photo on my Facebook page "Dr. Art Evans, entomologist."
