Massey sued by environmental group
Massey Energy is being sued by an environmental group in West Virginia.
A group called Coal River Mountain Watch claims Massey is violating federal law at a coal mine in Raleigh County, just off I-64.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Beckley, accuses Massey’s Marfork Coal subsidiary of dumping untreated water from its White Queen mine into a tributary of the Marsh Fork of the Big Coal River. According to the group, the water contains iron, manganese and other pollutants.
Massey, based in Richmond, made no immediate comment.
