Witness's deal in Claiborne murder in trouble
A key witness, who swore to tell the truth and made a deal with prosecutors in the murder of Tameka Claiborne, has a problem.
Richmond’s Commonwealth's Attorney didn’t like what he heard about Alphonzo Richardson in court when Michael Solomon, convicted of killing Claiborne, testified.
Herring: When you compare the testimony of Mr. Solomon to that of Mr. Richardson, what we realized was that as far as the cleanup of the crime scene and the disposal of the body was concerned, Richardson took a much more prominent role than did Mr. Solomon.
In an Alford plea, Richardson admitted in October to transporting a body and child neglect.
Herring: From my standpoint, because he shared a greater role in disposing of the crime, he does not deserve the benefit of any quote, "cooperation," closed quote, because he lied to us.
Richardson’s lawyer says his client has cooperated and is a hero. A hearing was set for March. Richardson could be sent to jail for six years.
Herring: This will bring this case to an end, and that's one thing that I and the family are looking forward to.
