Petersburg Regional Tourism Corp. is dissolved

Earlier this month the Petersburg Area Regional Tourism Corp. voted to return management of the non profit to the Crater Planning District Commission that organized it in 2006.

PART, as it's known, is a victim of tight budgets for local governments.

Since it began, PART was paid for by the cities of Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights, and Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and Prince George counties.

All have been forced to cut their contributions.  Petersburg, for example, gave $100 thousand for fiscal 2007-2008.  That dropped by half the following year and to $35 thousand this fiscal year.

Dennis Morris, Executive Director of the Planning Commission, told the Progress Index the focus will remain on marketing the attractions in the region for visitors and newcomers.  Randall Travel Marketing is consulting.
