Brenco hiring workers at Petersburg plant
Brenco, in Petersburg, is hiring. The company makes tapered roller bearings used throughout the world in the rail industry.
Brenco, part of Amsted Industries, Incorporated, has hired 45 new employees since November and still has some 20 openings.
In 2009, the company had to lay off 120 hourly workers, but things have turned around and business for their bearings has increased dramatically. The company says it has a first-rate retirement package, 401(k) and employee stock ownership programs, and offers medical benefits and an on-site clinic for its workers.
Brenco was founded in 1949. In the beginning, it made bronze journal bearings for freight cars. The change to its current product happened in 1962 and today Brenco claims 60% of the U.S. market for tapered roller bearings.
