State Board wants review of all textbooks from Five Ponds Press
The State Board of Education has called for a review of the current textbook approval process in the wake of two error-riddled elementary history textbooks that had crept into the system.
The State Board took a tough line on Five Ponds Press and its two faulty texts, Our Virginia and Our America.
Pyle: The Board is concerned that if so many problems were found with these two books, the grade 4 and grade 5 books, then perhaps there might be issues with the other books from this publisher.
Spokesman Charles Pyle says the Board has asked for an independent review of all of that publisher's books, and asked the State Superintendent to seek possible remedies for all the divisions who bought the books, even though Five Ponds Press has promised to replace them. And the board wants to be sure it doesn’t happen again.
Pyle: The Board wants to have a plan, next month, for revising our textbook review process to make this a much less likely occurrence in the future.
