Driver charged after truck gets stuck
Petersburg Police had to halt road and train traffic after a truck became wedged under a trestle.
It happened during the wintery weather on Tuesday.
Hyatt: On Squirrel Level Road, about 50 feet north of the Dinwiddie county line.
Petersburg Police Department’s Esther Hyatt explained that the truck and its trailer were 13 ½ feet tall.
Hyatt: Actually, the tractor scraped through, but the trailer had to be unloaded by chains and another vehicle, and then a heavy-duty wrecker had to pull it out.
The removal took several hours. Trucker Jerry Starks was charged with failure to obey a regulatory sign that indicated the trestle is 11’ 8” above the road.
Hyatt: And we did get word from CSX that the trestles are structurally sound.
