Phase two for Jobs and Oppotunity agenda
Yesterday Governor Bob McDonnell and Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling announced the second phase of their Jobs and Opportunity economic development agenda.
Nearly half of the 54 million dollar package will be used to establish the Virginia Research and Technology Innovation Fund, which is an attempt to once again bolster job growth in high-tech fields, an area where Virginia has been strong in the past but has recently lagged behind other states.
The plan will also include funding for small business assistance, tourism promotion and incentives for in-state film production.
Governor Bob McDonnell.
McDonnell: 6.8 percent unemployment rate is heartbreaking and unacceptable, and my top priority remains getting people back to work and this package is going to help do that.
On Friday, the Governor will announce his budget amendments to the House and Senate money committees, detailing efficiencies and cuts in other departments to pay for his new spending initiatives, all of which must gain legislative approval to go forward.
