Stunned sea turtles brought to Virginia
More than a dozen stunned sea turtles found on beaches along the East Coast are in Virginia now.
The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center’s Mark Swingle says cold snaps regularly stun sea turtles, but the recent cold weather has apparently affected them more than usual.
Five of the turtles were found in Virginia, six were transferred from New England, and two others came from North Carolina.
Christina Trapani, who is on the aquarium’s response team, says the sudden drop in temperature probably took the animals by surprise.
