Slight improvement in Martinsville unemployment rate
Some improvement in the jobless rate for Martinsville in October, but still the highest in the state.
Martinsville’s seasonally-unadjusted unemployment rate was 17.9%, down from 19% the month before and lower than the 19.8% rate for the same month last year.
The statewide average was six and a half percent in October. The national rate was nine percent.
At 3.8%, Arlington County had the lowest jobless rate. In metropolitan regions, the Washington area, including Arlington and Alexandria, was the lowest at 4.8% and the Danville region was the highest with an unemployment rate of 10.6%.
