City’s IT Department Wins National Recognition
The City Richmond placed first in the nation for its use of information technology by local governments, for cities in its population range. Charles Fishburne has more in this Science Matters Report.
The Center for Digital Government and Government Technology magazine did the survey and announced the award.
Flowers: We developed an application that allowed the employees within the city of Richmond to go online and suggest various ideas that would help to identify cost reductions and cost savings.
Annette Flowers, IT Director.
Flowers: We received well over 600 suggestions from the employees. I believe it was about, it was over two million dollars.
And that was just one of several initiatives the city’s IT department undertook to streamline operations and save money. The department has also recently been honored for the city’s website, infrastructure, library, debt set-off system, parcel mapper, traffic accidents and hazards page. Annette says the administration set the bar high.
Flowers: And I was green enough to believe that we could do it and realize the goals for the city.
