VCU Institute to Receive Grant to Prevent Youth Violence
VCU’s Clark-Hill Institute for Positive Youth Development has just been awarded a 6.5 million dollar grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Charles Fishburne reports.
The multi-million dollar grant will be announced at a news conference this afternoon at 4.
Clark-Hill Institute is located on the Monroe Park Campus and is part of the department of psychology.
It is one of ten National Academic Centers of Excellence for Youth Violence Prevention in the country, and has done extensive research on why public and private agencies aren’t doing a better job in preventing violence, how to set up effective intervention, the problems of dating and violence, how to use creative writing to defuse pain and hostility, and problems facing the growing Latino population.
The Institute will work with the city of Richmond and Richmond public schools to develop an approach that works. And CDC is betting 6.5 million, they'll find it.
