McEachin Named Legislator of the Year by Virginia Interfaith Center
Ninth District State Senator Don McEachin has just been named "Legislator of the Year," by the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy. Charles Fishburne reports.
Religion and politics is a delicate mix, but the Interfaith Center has taken an ecumenical approach to legislation they believe eases the burden for the poor and the oppressed, and they believe Senator McEachin does it best.
McEachin: Typically, in my experience, at least in the Senate, we've been very concerned with payday lending, the privatization of the ABC stores, the budget and in particular, its impact on those folks who live on the margins. Seeking economic justice as well as social justice, I think, is something that fairly describes them.
Senator McEachin was honored at a banquet at the Holocaust Museum last night for his work on public policy in behalf of those who are most vulnerable.
McEachin: Love one another and everything else will take care of itself. We're talking about the type of love that says that, you know, I am committed to your well-being and prayerfully you are committed to my well-being. And in acting out that type of love, we can overlook whatever differences we may have on, you know, how we think the world was created or who created it.
