Service Honors Forgotten Heroes
Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marking the end of World War I but honoring all U.S. service veterans. A ceremony tomorrow in Suffolk is unique.
The remains of some U.S. vets have never received a proper burial. Cremated remains have been found in hospitals, funeral homes and crematories.
Tomorrow at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, nine of these forgotten heroes will receive full military honors.
The service, at three in the afternoon, was organized by the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, Marine Corps League, Chesapeake Detachment, and the Virginia Patriot Guard Riders. The Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Chapel, handled the arrangements.
The DVS says it hopes to hear from other locations with veterans' unclaimed cremated remains.
