Major Intersection To Close For Improvements

Help is on the way to relieve conjestion at one of Hanover County’s busiest intersections, but it will be costly. Charles Fishburne reports.

Some 12,000 motorists a day pass through the intersection where Lee Davis, Walnut Grove and Cold Harbor intersect.

Vidunas:  This one has a lot to do with congestion in that intersection.

So VDOT will spend 1.5 million dollars to improve the lights and add turn lanes.  But it means, for the next twelve months, they will have to shut the intersection down.

Vidunas:  Their plan is to close off, right at the intersection, Walnut Grove and Cold Harbor.

Joe Vidunas is Hanover’s Transportation Engineer.

Vidunas:  If you're traveling east on Cold Harbor, you would not be able to continue through the intersection, nor if you were on Walnut Grove, as you approach the intersection, it would also be blocked off.

Then they'll flip it.  VDOT and Hanover plan a public meeting to explain the project and the detour and the fact that for the next 12 months, thousands of people will have to find a new way home.
