Hurt and Perriello Debate in Charlottesville Tonight

U.S. Congressman Tom Perriello and State Senator Robert Hurt will meet tonight for the second time in a televised event, as they campaign for Congress. Jeanne Faulconer has the details about the debate.

The League of Women Voters of Charlottesville/Albemarle and the League of Women Voters of Fluvanna are joining with Charlottesville television station WCAV to sponsor a televised debate of candidates for the United States Fifth Congressional District tonight. The race is considered one of the tightest congressional races in the country, with incumbent Democrat Tom Perriello facing challenger Robert Hurt, Republican state senator in Virginia.

Tonight's event, to be held at 7 pm at Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville is open to the public, with just over 400 seats available on a first-come, first-seated basis. The debate will be broadcast live on WCAV CBS-TV 19 and WVAW ABC-TV 16 with a radio broadcast on WCHV 1260 AM.

News anchor Dan Schutte will serve as moderator and a panel will ask questions of the candidates, with the audience invited to submit questions as well.  Portions of the sprawling Fifth Congressional District are outside the reach of the broadcasts.  WCAV has confirmed that the event will be streamed live on the internet at Newsplex.com, and video of the debate will remain available online after the live debate between Hurt and Perriello.
