Virginia Is The Focus Of New iPhone App
Yesterday Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling announced the latest piece of the McDonnell administration’s effort to boost tourism in the Commonwealth: the Virginia is for Lovers iPhone app. Craig Carper reports.
The Virginia Tourism Corporation spent eight months putting together the comprehensive digital travel guide for the iPhone and the iPad.
The application includes more than 12,000 listings for restaurants, hotels, wineries, museums and historical sites across the state, as well as a feature to find all attractions in a 15-mile radius, and mapping and directions for every listing.
Tamra Talmadge-Anderson is the Director of Public Relations for the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
Talmadge-Anderson: With one in three individuals being a smart-phone user, this is absolutely the way that we need to go. Travelers today don’t necessarily just think this is a nicety, this is a necessity. They demand this type of service. It’s like your own personal travel guide 24-7.
Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling notes that expanding tourism has been a key focus of Governor McDonnell’s administration.
Bolling: Tourism is big business in Virginia, in fact, tourism is a 19 billion-dollar industry in Virginia. More than 200,000 people are directly employed in tourism-related industries in our state.
The iPhone app is free and available now via iTunes. Applications for other smart phones are expected in the next several months.
