Deadline to Register to Vote Extended One Week
Virginia voters will have an extra week to register to vote beginning this year…which puts the deadline one week from today…and as Charles Fishburne reports, the ACLU is offering informational cards describing voters rights and urging voters to register.
The ACLU voters' rights card answers the top ten questions one is likely to have at the poll and the number one question?
Willis: A problem that's been around for a long time is the issue of whether or not you need to have an ID with you when you vote in Virginia.
Kent Willis, ACLU.
Willis: The answer is you do not have to have an ID. Poll workers may ask you for an ID, but if you don't have it, you're allowed to sign a form called an Affirmation of Identity form and then you can vote anyway. What we've found in the past is that not only do voters not know that they can insist on voting without an ID, but poll workers often disinform them.
There are eight other common voting questions on the card, available free at acluva.org or at 804-644-8080.
