Petersburg Police 5K Race Saturday

The anniversary of 9-11 will be marked Saturday in Petersburg with a Police Department sponsored community event especially for kids.

Clement:     This weekend we're having our first annual Heroes and Kids 5K.

Officer Patricia Clement is in charge of Special Projects for the Police Department.

Clement:  The race starts at Pocahontas Island at Union train station and it's going to go up to Bollingbrook Street; we'll go west on Bollingbrook to Sycamore Street, then south on Sycamore ending at Walnut Hill Elementary School.  Walnut Hill is having a parent summit meeting, so they partnered with us, being that we're doing this honoring kids.

There will be a brief ceremony to honor the victims of the 9-11 attacks, at the time the first of the twin towers was struck. There’s another reason a race was chosen.

Clement:     We also wanta help our kids with childhood obesity, so we thought of a good way of a back-to-school kickoff to healthy habits is to have a race.

To register online go to active.com and select Heroes and Kids 5K, or drop by Police Headquarters on Tabb Street.
