Quick Arrest after Petersburg’s Ninth Homicide

It didn’t take long for Petersburg to arrest a suspect in the city’s 9th homicide this year.

After a call around a quarter to one Sunday morning, police found 21-year-old Jonathan Williams shot inside a car at the Landmark Apartments on Stately Court.

The Police Department’s Esther Hyatt said the victim, who died at the scene, was not the intended target. That person, she said, was standing nearby with a group of people.

Within nine hours of the incident, police had 21-year-old Michael Hylton in custody.  Once again, Hyatt added, it was the public’s help, with a call to Crime Solvers, that led to the quick arrest.

Hylton is charged with first degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and four counts of attempted murder.  He’s being held in the city jail.  Both he and the victim are from Petersburg.
