It's Student Move-In Day at Randolph-Macon

The classes of 2014 are arriving on college campuses across Virginia. Today, 351 freshman will be busy moving into their dorms at Randolph-Macon College.

R-MC says this is the most diverse class in the history of the oldest United Methodist Church-related college in the country.

Lindgren:     We had over 4500 applications.  It is an all-time record for us.

R-MC President Robert Lindgren.

Lindgren:     The fact that we have additional applicants doesn't necessarily mean that we're simply drawing the line based on test scores or something like that; we're still very much interested in the students and the kind of experience they've had, both inside and outside the classroom.

More and more families are realizing, he said, that private schools can be affordable.

Lindgren:     Our advice is to figure out what might be the best kind of institution for a young man or woman interested in college, and then work with that institution or those types of institution to see what kind of financial aid might be available.
