Charter School Forum in Petersburg

The subject of Charter Schools will be the topic at a public forum tonight in Petersburg.

A group calling itself The Committee To Save Public Education says it's important to talk about Governor Bob McDonnell's plans to set up charter schools across Virginia.  Since June, the state Board of Education has been given a larger role in the evaluation of applications for charter schools.  McDonnell mentioned Petersburg as a city that would benefit.  In fact, the Secretary of Education was instructed to talk to successful charter school operators nationwide about the city.  The forum tonight is expected to include educators, elected officials, civil rights leaders, pastors and parents of school-aged children.  The meeting begins at 7:00 at the Appomattox Regional Governor's School on Washington Street.
