Richmond police commission new recruits trained in technology and terrorism
Richmond Police will commission 18 new recruits at ceremonies later this morning at Virginia Union, and as Charles Fishburne reports, they will face new challenges as they hit the streets.
There is a whole new breed of recruits for a whole new breed of criminals.
Ladin: They learn how to recognize potential threats.
Captain Gary Ladin is Director of Training.
Ladin: They learn how to interact with the public, they learn how to interact with other members of the community, whether they be the business community or just the private sector. They're identifying possible terrorist targets or threats or even as it goes to our natural disaster type of things like flood areas, potential problems that would lie there.
Richmond Police currently has 746 officers. Starting salary is $36,500, and they are already recruiting for the 105th class, with the next recruit test date set for Saturday, August 7th.
