Police Looking for Witnesses to a Homicide

Richmond police are looking for witnesses to a Sunday night shooting that resulted in the death of man who was apparently at the wrong place at the wrong time. Charles Fishburne reports that police believe there were people who saw it happen.

Twenty-nine year old William Ennis, III of Ashland was driving on Belvidere Street Sunday night, when he apparently caught a bullet intended for somebody else.

Lepley:  After interviewing several witnesses, investigators with the Police Department believe Ennis was not the intended target of the shooter.

Gene Lepley, Richmond Police.

Lepley:  They had determined the shooting was not random; that is, the gunman had apparently selected a target, but, that Ennis unknowingly drove his vehicle into the line of fire and was struck.

Police say there were people on the scene who saw it happen.

Lepley:  And we're asking them please, to come forward, either anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 780-1000; or, if they want to talk to a detective directly, they can call the Department's Tip Line, that's 514-TIPS, or 514-8477.
