Historical Society Has World War II Party

There were people waiting when the doors opened Saturday for the Society’s Annual Family Day Open House.

Levengood:  Just about 2500 friends stopped by and, I tell you, they got to see such a wide variety of great stuff and do so many neat activities.

VHS President and CEO Paul Levengood explained that there were plenty of things to do for all ages, reflecting the Society’s current exhibition of photographs from World War II.

Levengood:  They got to plant their own mini-Victory Garden, we had a Virginia history trivia contest, we had dance demonstrations of World War II-era dances from the Rigsby's Jig Dance Studio and music by the SwizzleSticks, who are a quartet of really talented women singers from the Greater Richmond Chorus, we had World War II military vehicles on display.

Levengood thanked the Kiwanis Club volunteers who helped out and, he noted, admission to the Virginia Historical Society is always free.
