Richmond’s Federal Reserve Bank Opens Six Million Dollar Exhibit
Richmond’s Federal Reserve Bank today is opening a new, six million dollar exhibit, free to the public to help people understand the economy and their part in it. Charles Fishburne reports.
Where else could you get up close and personal with a gold bar worth half a million dollars?
Rose: It weighs about 28 pounds and it's no bigger than, probably, your average brick.
Melanie Rose is Economic Education Manager.
Rose: It is all shiny and ready for viewing in the exhibit.
What's it worth today, approximately?
Rose: So, a little bit less than five hundred thousand, somewhere around four hundred and eighty thousand dollars.
There is also a big see-through box with 400 thousand one-dollar bills. The exhibit itself cost almost four million and they are hoping the Wow! factor will entice middle schoolers especially, but all of us, to come by and put ourselves in the picture because we're already there.
Rose: You are the economy and so we actually take visitor faces and place them throughout the exhibit to show them that they really are a part of the economy, and that their choices are what drives the economy.
